Trailing Ivy (Hedera helix)
Trailing Ivy, or Hedera helix, is a classic and versatile houseplant known for its elegant, cascading vines and timeless appeal. With its lush, green foliage and ability to adapt to various settings, this plant is perfect for adding a touch of nature to your home. Whether draped from a shelf, climbing a trellis, or used as ground cover in a larger plant arrangement, Trailing Ivy is both beautiful and easy to care for.

Care Instructions

Light: Hedera helix thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Variegated varieties require more light to maintain their patterns, while solid green types are more shade-tolerant. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the delicate leaves.

Watering: Water your ivy when the top inch of soil feels dry. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent overwatering, as ivy is susceptible to root rot. Reduce watering during the winter months when the plant’s growth slows.

Humidity: Ivy prefers moderate humidity levels but can adapt to drier indoor environments. Mist the leaves occasionally to boost humidity and prevent the edges from browning.

Temperature: Keep your ivy in a space with temperatures between 15-24°C (59-75°F). Avoid exposing it to extreme cold (although it will survive in temperatures as low as 0°C), or heat sources like radiators.

Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. A standard indoor potting soil works well, but you can add some sand or perlite for extra drainage.

Positioning: Trailing Ivy can be placed on high shelves, in hanging planters, or allowed to climb supports like trellises or moss poles. Its trailing nature makes it perfect for adding height and dimension to your plant displays.

Maintenance: Prune your ivy regularly to maintain its shape and encourage bushier growth. Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and prevent pests like spider mites.

With its graceful vines and easy-care nature, Trailing Ivy is a wonderful addition to any home, bringing a touch of classic greenery to your living space.
