Iron-Cross Begonia – Begonia masoniana 🪨🍃
Named for the bold dark cross-shaped pattern at the centre of each leaf, the Iron-Cross Begonia is a true showstopper. Its textured, pebbled leaves have a soft green hue with striking chocolate-brown markings, adding dramatic flair to shaded interiors or plant shelves.
Key Features:
✔ Fuzzy, textured leaves with a unique “iron cross” marking
✔ Compact and bushy – perfect for pots, terrariums, or tabletops
✔ Unusual foliage makes it a conversation-starting collector’s plant
✔ May produce small pink or white blooms, but grown primarily for its leaves
✔ Ideal for indirect light and tropical-themed displays
Care Instructions:
-
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light – avoid direct sun, which can scorch leaves
-
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, but not soggy – let the top layer dry slightly before watering again
-
Humidity: Thrives in high humidity – mist regularly or use a humidity tray
-
Soil: Use a light, well-draining potting mix with added organic matter
-
Feeding: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser
-
Temperature: Best kept between 18–24°C – protect from cold drafts
🌿 Tip: Avoid getting water on the leaves, as this can cause spotting or mildew – water at the base.
