Holiday Cactus - Schlumbergera
Holiday Cactus (Schlumbergera spp.)
The Holiday Cactus, a term often used for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter cacti, is a festive and elegant houseplant cherished for its cascading stems and vibrant blooms. Depending on the species, it produces flowers in a variety of colors, such as red, pink, white, or yellow, during its namesake holiday season.
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can cause leaf burn, but some morning sun can encourage blooming.
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist during the growing and blooming season. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering after flowering.
Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity. Mist occasionally or place a pebble tray with water beneath the plant.
Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 18–24°C. Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes, as these can cause bud drop.
Bloom Tip: To encourage blooms, provide cooler temperatures (around 15°C) and 12–14 hours of darkness each night for 6–8 weeks leading up to the holiday season.
With its graceful arching stems and vibrant flowers, the Holiday Cactus is a festive favorite that adds beauty to homes year-round, especially during the holiday season.
