🌿 Dwarf Umbrella Tree Charlotte 🌿

Botanical Name: Schefflera arboricola Charlotte
Origin: Taiwan
Mature Size: Up to 1.5 meters indoors
Pet Fiendly - No

☀️ Light Requirements

'Charlotte' thrives in bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate medium light conditions, insufficient light may lead to leggy growth and reduced variegation. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. Placing the plant near an east or west-facing window is ideal.

💧 Watering

Allow the top inch of the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while underwatering may cause leaf drop. During the growing season (spring and summer), water approximately every 5 days; in the dormant season (autumn and winter), reduce watering to every 10 days.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 18°C to 24°C. Avoid exposing the plant to temperatures below 13°C.

  • Humidity: Enjoys moderate humidity levels. If the indoor air is dry, especially during winter, consider misting the plant occasionally or placing it on a humidity tray.

🪴 Soil & Repotting

  • Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A mix containing peat, perlite, and compost is ideal.

  • Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. The best time to repot is during the spring.

🌱 Fertilization

Feed 'Charlotte' once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer. Avoid fertilizing in autumn and winter, as the plant's growth slows down during these periods.

✂️ Pruning & Propagation

  • Pruning: Regular pruning helps maintain the plant's shape and encourages bushier growth. Remove any yellowing or dead leaves to keep the plant healthy.

  • Propagation: Propagate through stem cuttings. Take a 10 cm cutting, remove the lower leaves, and place it in water or moist potting mix until roots develop.

🐛 Common Pests & Problems

  • Pests: Watch out for spider mites, mealybugs, and scale insects. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

  • Leaf Drop: Can be caused by overwatering, underwatering, or sudden changes in temperature or light.

  • Yellowing Leaves: Often a sign of overwatering or poor drainage.

📝 Additional Tips

  • Cleaning: Dust the leaves regularly with a damp cloth to ensure optimal photosynthesis.

  • Support: As the plant grows taller, it may require staking to support its upright growth.
