Euphorbia trigona ‘Rubra’ – Red African Milk Tree
🌿🌵❤️
The Euphorbia trigona ‘Rubra’, also known as the Red African Milk Tree, is a striking succulent with upright, triangular stems flushed with deep burgundy-red tones. Its ridged stems are dotted with small leaves and short spines, creating an architectural and colourful display. A tough, drought-tolerant plant, it’s perfect for modern interiors.
Key Features:
✔ Bold, triangular stems with deep red to purple colouring
✔ Small green leaves emerge along the ridges for contrast
✔ Hardy, drought-tolerant, and low-maintenance
✔ Excellent as a statement plant in bright spaces
✔ A collector’s favourite for its unique colour and form
Care Instructions:
-
Light: Thrives in bright, direct to bright indirect light – strong light deepens the red colour
-
Watering: Very drought-tolerant; allow soil to dry completely between waterings
-
Soil: Best in a well-draining cactus/succulent mix
-
Feeding: Fertilise monthly in spring and summer with cactus feed
-
Temperature: Prefers 18–28°C, keep above 10°C and protect from frost
-
Growth: Upright stems can grow up to 1–2m indoors over time
🌿 Tip: As with all euphorbias, the milky sap is toxic – handle with gloves and keep away from pets and children.
