Tamarindus indica – Tamarind Tree 🌿🌳✨
The Tamarindus indica, commonly known as the Tamarind Tree, is a beautiful tropical species prized for its elegant, feathery foliage and distinctive sweet-sour fruit pods. Native to Africa and widely grown across Asia, it makes a fascinating and ornamental addition to warm, bright interiors or conservatories when kept as a bonsai or potted specimen.
Key Features:
✔ Graceful, airy foliage with fine, fern-like leaves
✔ Produces curved, brown pods containing tangy, edible pulp (in mature plants)
✔ Excellent choice for bonsai or indoor tropical displays
✔ Drought-tolerant once established and easy to maintain
✔ Adds a tropical, exotic touch to any plant collection
Care Instructions:
Light: Thrives in full sun to bright, indirect light. Place near a sunny window or in a conservatory for best growth.
Watering: Water thoroughly when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Reduce watering slightly in cooler months.
Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity but adapts well to normal indoor conditions.
Soil: Use a well-draining, sandy loam or cactus mix.
Feeding: Fertilise every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser.
Temperature: Keep between 20–30°C; protect from frost and cold drafts.
Growth: Can reach several metres outdoors, but in pots or bonsai form typically stays 60–120 cm tall.
🌿 Tip: Prune regularly to shape your Tamarind Tree and encourage a full, bushy form — perfect for bonsai or decorative indoor growth.
